Plot of the film Local Battle (2008 film):

The film takes place at the end of 1943. After graduating from military school, junior lieutenant Andrei dreams of going to the front, to the front line, but the command sends him to serve in a quartermaster company, to command a platoon of trophy hunters. Trophy hunters usually acted far from the front line, and Andrei was worried that he would never smell gunpowder in a real battle.

His subordinates, old and experienced soldiers who had been through more than one battle, made fun of their young commander who had never smelled gunpowder, who tried to do everything according to the regulations, as they had taught him at the school. And once, while collecting trophies, Andrei saw how one of his subordinates, Stryapukhin, took the watch of a dead German, although according to the instructions, all trophies had to be handed over to the state.

This action by Stryapukhin outraged the junior lieutenant, and he orders Sergeant Major Mokhov to confiscate Stryapukhin's watch, and promises to hold the violator of discipline accountable upon his return to the unit.

But since it was December 31, Mokhov persuaded the lieutenant to postpone this matter until tomorrow, and today to stop for the night in the nearest village and celebrate the New Year.

In the village of Lyutiki, the soldiers stop at the house of a local resident, Maksimovich, where they decide to have a fun New Year's Eve. Only the young lieutenant, who demanded that they not lose their vigilance, does not particularly like all this. But his experienced comrades advise not to worry, because the front has rolled back at least thirty kilometers, and besides, Maksimovich said that he did not see a single German during the entire war.

But on the morning of January 1st, a detachment of SS saboteurs, sent to the rear to blow up a bridge of strategic importance, lost their way and ended up in the village of Lyutiki.

The sudden appearance of uninvited guests caught the Soviet trophy hunters by surprise, but there was nowhere to retreat, so they entered into battle with a well-trained and superior enemy...
