Plot:

Action of the film Unit takes place in 1944 during the liberation of Poland. A young officer, Lieutenant Yegorov, who graduated from military school, arrives at his place of service. The unit command appoints him as the commander of the "Unit" of the legendary artillery battery, which has proven itself well in previous battles.

In this legendary battery, the no less legendary lieutenant Fenogenov served as deputy for political affairs. Despite his serious age, he was only a lieutenant, and Fenogenov had a civil war behind him. With such experience, lieutenant Fenogenov was a true engineer of human souls, for which his subordinates loved their political officer.

The first meeting between the "green" commander and the battle-hardened political officer was not pleasant. Especially since the political officer met his new commander in a state of not quite light alcohol intoxication and tried to teach Yegorov "life lessons".

But it didn't take long to sort things out. The battery received an order to guard one of the strategic bridges. The strategic bridge had to be held until the main forces arrived, and Yegorov, who had dreamed of an offensive, was a little upset that he was being left in the rear.

But an order is an order. Having arrived at the scene, Yegorov sets up positions for guns and an observation command post, which he decides to place in the tower of a nearby monastery. Having set off with two fighters to reconnoiter the monastery, Yegorov discovers a Polish nun and a dozen children there.

Having learned of this, Fenogenov demands that the children be sent to the rear immediately, because at any moment the monastery may find itself in the line of fire. But it was not possible to evacuate the children, as a German landing force suddenly appeared in the rear and attacked the positions of "Edinichka". Yegorov's fighters manage to hide the children in their dugout and successfully repel several attacks by superior enemy forces.

But for the final assault on the heavily battered positions of "Edinichka", the Germans threw in large forces. Having gathered all their remaining forces into a fist, Yegorov's fighters put up fierce resistance to the much superior German forces, and were able to hold the bridge until the main forces arrived. When the advance detachments entered the positions of "Edinichka", they found only children alive, whom Yegorov's fighters hid in a dugout and defended to the last drop of blood...
