После объявленного большевиками Декрета о мире, солдат Иван Шадрин, как и тысячи других солдат возвращается домой. В планах, уставшего от войны солдата уехать в родную деревню и обзавестись хозяйством, но по дороге он решает заехать в Петроград навестить сестру.
After seeing his sister, Shadrin was ready to go about his village affairs, but thanks to a chance acquaintance with two revolutionary sailors he finds himself in Smolny. Here he has the opportunity to familiarize himself with the Land Decree, which envisaged the transfer of all landed estates to the ownership of peasants.
After reading this law, Shadrin almost jumped for joy and decided to drink a little tea on this occasion, and at the same time to treat his new comrades. Running with a kettle through Smolny in search of water, Ivan encounters Lenin himself in the corridor, about whom he had heard a lot and long dreamed of meeting.
Shadrin learns from Lenin that it is too early for him to change his gun for a plow, because the Soviet power, which took the land from the landlords and distributed it to the peasants, was in mortal danger. From all sides to Petrograd are approaching enemies who are burning with a desire to regain their lost riches ...
