August 1941, Lieutenant Konstantin Ananyev leads the remnants of the battalion out of the encirclement. On the road, they are caught up by an Emka, from which the commander gets out.

He orders Ananyev to urgently take up the defense at the railway station located a few kilometers away, and as always in such cases, the order was to hold on to the last. And besides the lieutenant realized that his battalion, from which remained no more than half a company of reinforcements will not be.

In order to cover his rear, the lieutenant decides to set up a barrier of six men on the road to the station, which should hold on the road for twenty-four hours. Of course, the lieutenant realized that six men armed with small arms and one anti-tank gun would not be able to hold out that long if tanks came against them.

But in this situation it was important not to stop, but at least to delay. After all, in war, any, even minor damage to the enemy leads to victory....

March 1943, the company of senior lieutenant Ananyev on the march. The forward patrol reports to the commander that ahead of the height on which the Germans are entrenched.

While the Germans are not entrenched, Ananyev decides to attack them from the start. Under the cover of darkness Ananyev's company conducts a lightning attack. And, without giving the Germans even a second thought, takes the dominant height.

Ananyev hurries to report to the battalion commander and sends a messenger to the rear, but in the morning the Germans are already knocking out the Red Army from the heights, and Ananyev regrets that he hurried with the report.

At this time, his messenger returns and sends Ananyev the commander's thanks. Having heard the words of gratitude, Ananyev realizes that now it is necessary to bring the height back under his control, by all means...

May 1945. The end of the war is just days away. Several Soviet officers and soldiers stay overnight at the home of a German architect, where they receive the news of the complete surrender of Germany and its allies. Tired of the long war, the military men decide to throw a small celebration to mark the occasion. But in the morning they realize that the war is not over yet.

Coming out of the encirclement of the enemy tried to escape from pursuit on the territory controlled by the Allies of the USSR, and their path just passed near the house of a German engineer...
