Plot of the cartoon:

There lived a woman and she had no children. One day the woman asked for help from a good witch, who gave her a grain.

The woman planted a seed in the ground, and soon a flower grew out of it, and from the flower a little girl. She was no more than an inch tall, so the woman named her Thumbelina.

One day, a toad learned about the existence of the little beauty and decided to kidnap her and marry her to his son.

But Thumbelina did not want to marry a toad and runs away from her fiancé and his mother just before the wedding. She is helped in this by a beetle, who, having freed the girl, offers her to become his wife. The girl promises to think about the beetle's offer, but he soon changes his mind about marrying her, because no one else in his circle liked her except him.

So Thumbelina finds herself all alone in the forest, on the threshold of rainy autumn and snowy winter. Wandering alone through the forest, she ends up in a mouse's hole, and the mouse, having made sure that Thumbelina eats little, invites her to live through the autumn and winter with her.

But soon the mouse decides to marry Thumbelina to his neighbor, a wealthy mole.

There was no choice, and Thumbelina, horrified that she would never see the light of day again, asks the mole to let her look at the sun one last time.

The mole keeps his promise and allows the girl to leave the hole for a few minutes and look at the sun. At this time, a swallow flew over her, which Thumbelina helped to recover from illness, and the girl now asked for help from it.

The Swallow happily responds to Thumbelina's request for help and takes her with him to warmer lands, where the girl meets a people of small winged flower elves.

Their king, seeing Thumbelina, fell in love with her at first sight, and this time Thumbelina responded to his feelings and agreed to marry him...
