The film takes place in the mid-80s of the last century in Afghanistan. Foreign journalist saboteur Cooper receives secret information about the movement of a column of Soviet armored vehicles and manpower from the border to Kabul.

Cooper plans an operation to destroy the column and prepare sensational material for the press, for this the operator must film the final stage of the column's destruction. Two sabotage groups are being prepared by foreign instructors.

One group, led by Cooper himself, would penetrate into the rear of the Soviet-controlled territory and destroy the only collapsible bridge across the river. The other group would use mortars and grenade launchers to shoot down the column blocked by the river.

At this time, Soviet geologists conducting geological exploration in the mountains of Afghanistan were attacked by mujahideen, the station guards, consisting of Afghan army soldiers, fled, and the geologists, abandoning their expensive equipment, managed to escape in two trucks. At one of the posts, the trucks were stopped, and a Soviet officer advised the geologists to move towards the column, so that under its cover they could safely reach Kabul.

Together with them, the officer sends senior sergeant Chebakov, who has served his term. But Cooper, with his men, dressed in the uniform of Soviet soldiers, seizes trucks with geologists. Threatening with a weapon, Cooper demands that the geologists go to the bridge. The column, under the cover of two helicopters, meanwhile slowly approached the bridge from the other side.

Having noticed approaching trucks from the air, the "side" commander informs the column's senior about them. "Earth" orders the "sides" to descend and carefully check the "boxes". But the pilots did not see anything suspicious. Having noticed helicopters following them, Cooper demands to speed up the movement.

Realizing that the column is in danger, the driver of the rear car accelerates and rams the car in front, which has iron pipes in its back. One pipe pierces Cooper through and through.

Having seized his machine gun, the geologist opens fire on the dushmans hiding in the back of the truck. Thus, one group of saboteurs, which was supposed to blow up the bridge, was destroyed. At this time, in the village, another sabotage group from among mujahideen hijacks the bus and starts moving towards the bridge.

The Soviet command, knowing that the bridge was the most vulnerable place, sent a landing force to the crossing area, which took up defensive positions and engaged in battle with the mujahideen who had arrived by bus. But since the bridge had not been blown up and the mujahideen had not managed to achieve surprise, the Soviet units that entered the battle destroyed them, losing nine men killed and thirteen wounded…
