Narrative:
Action of the film When I become a giant takes place in the Soviet era in the late 80s. The film's protagonist, 8th-grade student Petya Kopeikin, disrupts a school performance of "Cyrano de Bergerac," in which his classmate and "class enemy" Lastochkin made his debut, causing another scandal, since a representative of the City Education Department Sergey Konstantinovich.
The school principal complains that Kopeikin is an incorrigible hooligan and troublemaker, and also practices karate. Sergei Konstantinovich decides to personally talk to this incorrigible hooligan. But when the duty officers forcibly brought Kopeikin to the office, he involuntarily laughed. What he saw did not correspond in any way to the image of a troublemaker-hooligan-karateka.
In front of him stood a boy who was small and skinny for his age, not presentable in appearance. But after talking to Kopeikin, Sergei Konstantinovich realized that the guy had character. In addition, from a conversation with the class teacher, he knew that Petya wrote poetry, and very good ones.
Kopeikin himself honestly explained his actions by the fact that the role of the noble Cyrano was given to the scoundrel and major Lastochkin. In addition, Lastochkin tried to court Kopeikin's classmate and neighbor, Masha Goroshkina, with whom Petya himself was secretly in love.
Fortunately for Petya, Masha rejected all attempts of the rich kid to win her love. Lastochkin did not forget the insult inflicted on him and in the evening with his friends he lay in wait for Kopeikin in the gateway, offering him a one-on-one fight. But Petya declares to Lastochkin that he will fight such scumbags all his life.
The next day, Kopeikin was attacked by loaders from a nearby store, bribed by the aspiring mafioso Lastochkin. However, Petya managed to escape, and Lastochkin only got his belt buckle, which Kopeikin lost during the chase.

On the back of the buckle Lastochkin saw a photo of Goroshkina and now hated Kopeikin even more. At this time, a new guy appears at school - a tall and slender basketball player, 9th grader Kolya Kristalov.
Handsome Kolya immediately won the hearts of all the girls at the new school. But Kolya himself really liked Goroshkina, whom he began to timidly court. Masha also liked the handsome basketball player, but she was more interested in the inner content of a person, and such handsome men were often empty inside.
Nevertheless, she asks Petya to pass a note to Kristalov. Kopeikin is shocked, but nevertheless decides to fulfill the request of his beloved girl. Seeing that Kristalov is carried away by Masha, the schemer Lastochkin provokes a conflict between him and Kopeikin. Kolya and Petya go around the corner to sort things out, but to Lastochkin's great chagrin, they leave as friends.
In addition, Petya writes his new poems for Kristalov, which he reads to Goroshkina on his own behalf. Masha is amazed by Kolya's "versatility": a handsome basketball player and a lyric poet in one person. But Lastochkin interferes again, he tells Kristalov that Kopeikin is in love with Goroshkina and shows a buckle with her photo as proof.
Kolya immediately goes to Petya and demands that he go to Goroshkina and confess to the scams with the poems, but Masha, standing on her balcony, hears everything. Now she understands that the handsome basketball player turned out to be a dud, and the one she had ignored point-blank turned out to be a noble and strong man, ready to do anything for her…
