Narrative:
The action of the movie Mercedes evades the chase takes place in 1944. The Soviet command received air reconnaissance data on the movement of a column of German troops towards Beregovoye. Apparently, the Germans are going to launch a decisive counteroffensive from there.
But intelligence is not supposed to rely on data obtained from only one source, so the head of intelligence sends to the German rear several reconnaissance teams, for a more detailed study of the situation and verification of air data.
But the sent groups did not get in touch and did not return from the mission. The chief of staff of the army hurries the chief of intelligence, because soon the offensive, and they know nothing about the concentration of the main enemy forces. Therefore, the general gives the chief of intelligence three days to find out the situation and report.
Another group of scouts was now to be led by Captain Loktev. For the success of the operation it was decided to send a group in German uniform to use two trophy cars: a passenger Mercedes and a truck Opel. Young lieutenant Alexander Ermolenko asks the chief of intelligence to send him with the group, because the war is already ending, and he has not yet smelled gunpowder.
Alexander had a higher education, knew German well, so the chief of intelligence kept him at his headquarters, despite the fact that Yarmolenko regularly wrote reports about being sent to the front. This time for Yarmolenko asked Loktev, and the head of intelligence, squeaking his heart, agreed. Under the cover of night, the group successfully crossed the front line across the lakes, and soon found themselves in the deep German rear.
