Plot:

The action of the series "Moscow Yard" takes place in 1937. The chief engineer of the Moscow cable plant Nikolai Zotov is accused of preparing a terrorist act against the People's Commissar of Defense, Comrade Voroshilov, who was soon to arrive at their plant on a working visit.

Having learned that the NKVD would come for him at night, Zotov, on the advice of his wife Lyudmila, runs away and goes to his best friend in Kolomna, where, under his protection, he begins to work at a military factory.

With the outbreak of war, despite the fact that as an employee of a defense enterprise he had a "reservation" from being drafted into the army, Nikolai decided to volunteer for the front. This was risky, considering that he was still wanted and had not been registered with the military registration and enlistment office for several years.

However, Zotov consciously takes this risk, realizing that he cannot hide forever, and here he has a great chance to clear his name. Soon, on the way to his place of service, Zotov's train comes under fire, but Nikolai miraculously manages to escape pursuit.

Wandering through the forests, he gathers a detachment of the same encircled people as himself, and by the beginning of autumn 1941, the detachment's numbers exceed a full-fledged rifle regiment. Under Zotov's command, the detachment gives several battles to the occupiers and successfully breaks out of the encirclement, joining up with regular units of the Red Army.

The front command appreciated Zotov's feat and is going to present him not only with an extraordinary rank, but also with the highest state award, but the past does not let Nikolai go.

Ironically, the detachment that Zotov led out of encirclement included the very same NKVD investigator who had fabricated the case against him in 1937...
