Plot of the TV series 1941 (TV series 2009):

The series takes place in 1941 in a small Russian village during the Nazi occupation. The plot centers on two brothers, Grigory and Ivan, who were separated by unrequited love on the eve of the war.

Grigory's father forced him to marry Alena, the daughter of the local collective farm chairman and his former fellow soldier from the civil war, with whom Ivan was in love.

When the Germans arrive in the village, Ivan joins the police, hoping to protect Alena. Grigory organizes a partisan detachment, which soon turns out to be a formidable force and inflicts significant losses on the enemy.

Despite the fact that the local population for the most part did not welcome the new government and, when the opportunity arose, helped the partisans in every possible way, the village commandant, Oberleutnant Walter, was in no hurry to carry out punitive measures against him. Raised in the spirit of old knightly traditions, Walter did not want to fight with the civilian population, believing that terror would further embitter people against the Germans.

But this approach was clearly not to the liking of either his subordinates, who buried their comrades every day, or the local policemen, or, of course, Walter's superiors. After all, thanks to his humanism, the losses in Walter's area of responsibility were the greatest. Walter is required to take more decisive measures to restore order, but as a career military man, he could not become a policeman.

Having lost faith in forcing Walter to strangle the partisans with terror, the authorities remove him from his job as village commandant, since it was decided to destroy the village. For this purpose, a team of local policemen was formed in the city, who were supposed to carry out this dirty mission, while proving their loyalty to the new government.
