After the discovery of the atomic nucleus at the beginning of the 20th century, new directions in science emerged, such as nuclear physics and quantum mechanics.
In the early 1930s, scientists representing these areas came to the conclusion that under the influence of external factors, the nucleus is capable of dividing, releasing a huge amount of energy.
During the avalanche-like fission of nuclei, called a nuclear chain reaction, an explosion of unprecedented force should have occurred. Equal to thousands of tons of conventional explosives.
From this time on, the nuclear race essentially begins. Work on developing nuclear weapons is carried out in fascist Germany, the communist USSR. And of course, in the USA.
