Действие фильма «Смерть шпионам: Операция Лисья нора» разворачивается осенью 1944 года в Белоруссии. Группа вражеских диверсантов совершает нападение на фельдъегерский конвой и похищает пакет, в котором находился план наступления группы армий Рокоссовского в Белоруссии.

Hot on the trail of the military counterintelligence detachment SMERSH (Death to Spies) manages to eliminate five saboteurs and capture one alive, but the secret package was not found on them. It follows that either the saboteurs' accomplices got hold of the package and it was then on its way to Berlin, or the spies managed to hide it in the forest, in a previously agreed upon location.

If the second option came up, and the package had not yet crossed the front line, this gave a small chance of finding it, otherwise the entire carefully planned offensive operation could fail.

At this time, Reichsfuehrer Himmler receives a coded message from one of the agents that the package with the plan for a strategic offensive operation has been successfully stolen and is in the designated location. Himmler plans to carry out an operation codenamed "Fox Hole", the development of which he gives to the best saboteur of the Reich, SS Obersturmbannfuehrer Otto Skorzeny, famous for freeing the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini from prison.

Skorzeny proposes sending two sabotage groups to the rear, one of which will have to carry out sabotage on one of the objects that does not represent any particular strategic importance. The main goal of this group is not so much sabotage as it is to distract the attention of Soviet counterintelligence. This group will be staffed with saboteurs who are not particularly valuable and trained, who can be sacrificed for the sake of the second group, staffed with the best spies of the Reich, to carry out the task…
