Plot of the movie The Detective (1979):

The Criminal Investigation Department is on the trail of a particularly dangerous criminal nicknamed "Palyanny". The detectives did not know the whereabouts of the criminal, but they got serious leads in the case.

An operative source reported that a courier was on his way to Palennyi to deliver the gold stolen from the mine. Thus, the detectives learned not only the name of the courier, but also the place on the train in which he would be traveling.

Under the leadership of police colonel Vyacheslav Klimov, an operation was developed to capture the "Palenny" gang. The investigators were to be led to the lair of the bandits by the very courier whom the operatives had organized surveillance.

The best police forces were used to capture "Palenny" and his gang. Among them was a young operative Yevgeny Kulik, who had recently joined the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In his fantasies, Kulik had already seen himself single-handedly disarming a gang of criminals. However, the management had so far used Kulik in reserve positions.

Together with the experienced operative Guladze, he was to cover the possible escape of the bandits from the vacant lot. The probability that the bandits would escape from the surrounded house through the vacant lot was minimal, because there was a forest on the other side of the house, where it was easier to hide.
