Narrative:
Action of the film Inspector Gull takes place in the 70s of the last century, in England. Arthur Birling, a millionaire, businessman and well-known public figure in England, wants to marry his daughter Sheila to a hereditary nobleman, the bearer of the oldest aristocratic family in England, Gerald Croft.
Birling has everything a person could dream of: power, money, high position in society. The only thing missing is a noble title, which in conservative England is no less important than money. So, Mr. Birling is in a hurry to marry Sheila to Croft, and the circumstances could not have been better.
After all, despite the fact that Gerald was the bearer of one of the most famous surnames in England, he was only a novelist and his financial success was very far from Birling. In addition, Sheila was madly in love with Gerald. Once, when he went away somewhere for six months and did not write to her, she almost went crazy, and her parents were forced to send her for treatment in a mental hospital.
However, all was left behind, and now all that remained was to hold the engagement. In the evening, Gerald was invited to the Belings for a modest family dinner, on the occasion of his and Sheila's engagement. Having blessed Sheila to marry Gerald, Birling senior, in an elevated mood, informed his future son-in-law, when they were alone, that he himself would soon receive a noble title, if nothing happened in the meantime that could compromise him.
But then the maid informed Birling that a policeman, a certain Inspector Gull, had arrived and was demanding to see him. Birling ordered the inspector to be let in, hoping that he had come to sign some documents. But the inspector had come for another reason.

He informed Birling that in the morning a young beautiful girl had committed suicide by throwing herself from a bridge under a train... Despite Birling's attempts to intimidate the inspector with his connections in the police department, Gull rather unceremoniously and self-confidently reported that he had a diary left by the dead girl, from which it followed that each member of the Birling family had made his own contribution to such a tragic end for her.
Having exposed everyone, Inspector Gull left, leaving the respectable family in complete confusion. But Jarald, while the inspector was interrogating the Birling family members, left for a while. When he returned, he happily informed everyone that Inspector Gull was an impostor. Birling senior suggested that Gull might be a private detective or a journalist.
They were not destined to find out that the "inspector" who had brought such horror upon them had escaped from a mental hospital. He had stolen the doctor's keys and his car. When Inspector Gull was driving over the bridge, he witnessed a young and very beautiful girl throw herself under a train. This incident greatly disturbed him.
A few minutes later, sitting in a cafe, he watched an interview on TV with a social activist, Sybil Berling. She reported that a few days ago she had chased a young pregnant girl out of the church, who had asked for some money…
Having recovered from the blow, the Berling family slowly began to come to their senses, but then a story about the dead girl was shown on TV. The police found a photo of a man in her purse, and this became a new blow for the respectable family...
