The film takes place in the late 1930s in Ukraine. The main character of the film is Maryana Bazhan, a Komsomol member, a beauty and the foreman of the only female tractor brigade in the country, and indeed in the world.

Her photographs, like those of a famous movie star, were circulated in all central newspapers, therefore, Maryana had many fans and received letters daily from all corners of the vast country.

But no one had yet managed to win the love of the star tractor driver, her heart was still free. The role of groom was claimed by tractor driver Nazar Duma, the foreman of the male tractor brigade.

But Nazar's brigade was the most lagging behind MTS, therefore, such a pioneer of labor as Maryana could hardly fall in love with such a negligent foreman as Duma.

At this time, demobilized tanker Klim Yarko, who served in the Far East, arrives at MTS. He also read an article about Maryana Bazhan in Pravda and fell in love with her at first sight, so after his service he goes to Ukraine to work at MTS, where his love worked.

As a former tank driver, Klim turned out to be a first-class mechanic and was immediately liked not only by Maryana, but also by the head of the MTS, Kirill Petrovich, who persuaded him to stay with them. But one day Klim learns that Maryana has a fiancé, Nazar Duma, and decides to leave the MTS, despite Maryana's ardent requests not to leave.

Only the intervention of the head of the MTS makes Klim change his decision, because he offered him to take the place of the foreman of the men's brigade instead of his main competitor Nazar Duma, whom he demoted to an ordinary tractor driver.

Having completed military service, Klim introduces strict military discipline into the brigade, and soon the brigade of former outsiders becomes the leader, and Klim Yarko wins not only honor and glory, but also the love of Maryana Bazhan...
