Действие фильма «Хорошо сидим!» происходит в середине 80-х годов, в СССР, в разгар последней антиалкогольной кампании. Журналисты готовят сюжет для телевидения о пьяницах, героем которого стал некий Шеф, предводитель алкашей. Вместе со своими единомышленниками Шеф лежал в травматологическом отделении больницы, ожидая выздоровления и справедливого наказания за свои пьяные выходки. Журналистам удается разыскать свидетелей и установить полную картину тех событий, которые привели «героев» их сюжета к такому финалу.

It all started on a train, on which the Chief went on a business trip to get a new car. There was a good group of men in the compartment. One passenger was going to referee a soccer match, the second was going to a wedding as a father, the third was a candidate of science, going to defend his dissertation. Each of them did not forget to bring a bottle of vodka, disguised as "Borjomi", just in case. Having checked the reliability of the conspiracy, the Chief gives the go-ahead for the banquet to begin.

In the next compartment was a forwarder, an acquaintance of the Chief. This forwarder had to get a signature on a certificate of receipt of spare parts from a certain Pyotr Yerofeyevich, the head of supplies. The forwarder was well prepared for the processing of the supply officer. He organized so that he and Ivanov were in the same compartment, took two bottles of elite vodka "Golden Ring", homemade snacks. But here is the problem Ivanov refuses to drink: after all, if he drinks a shot of vodka, he will become a different person, and this other....

On the advice of the Chief, the forwarder begins to act by personal example and soon Pyotr Yerofeyevich surrendered. When two bottles of vodka had been emptied, the forwarding agent finally offered Ivanov to sign the act. But instead of signing, the drunken official drew a cat on the act. The forwarder sighed bitterly: "All six signatures are down the drain."

At that time, the Chief ran out of vodka in his compartment and went to the nearest station to replenish his supply. But having bought a bottle of the coveted liquid, Shef got on the wrong train and in fury pulls the stopcock. At the same time his drinking buddies discover that the Chief has fallen behind the train and also pull the stop-cock. Soon all the participants of the feast were detained and taken to the police.

Having served his sentence, the Chief returns to his drunken activities. This time he is invited on a hunt by the very same expeditor: he needs to assist in processing the indomitable Pyotr Yerofeyevich.
