Narrative:

Action of the film Along the main street with an orchestra takes place in the mid-80s of the last century. The main character of the film, Vasily Pavlovich Muravin, a talented composer and guitarist, was forced to give up his passion for music many years ago. While still in the army, Muravin received a referral to the conservatory, but for the sake of his beloved woman, he refuses to enroll.

Having married, Muravin understands that he needs to feed his family, and not strum the guitar, especially since his wife Lida studied medicine. Having graduated from the Polytechnic, Muravin becomes a teacher of strength of materials at a university.

However, by the age of fifty, Muravin realized that he had been living somehow wrong. The reason was the appointment of a young and assertive colleague, Romanovsky, to the position of head of the department. Muravin did not aspire to the position of head, he was very far from these career intrigues in particular, and from strength of materials in general.

Muravin began to seclude himself in the bathroom more and more often and play the guitar, which greatly irritated his wife. But what irritated Lidiya most of all was that her husband was too modest, indecisive and impractical: he had worked as a teacher for twenty years, and the position of head of the department went to another limited but pragmatic upstart.

After these reproaches from his wife, Muravin begins to understand more and more clearly that not only has he been doing something he doesn’t like for many years, but he also lives with people who don’t understand him. Feeling lonely and a stranger in his own family, Muravin leaves, taking only his guitar with him. He had to prove to everyone, and first of all to himself, that he is not such a loser as others consider him…
