Narrative:

The movie is set in 1853, when the squadron Admiral NakhimovHaving landed troops near Sukhum to strengthen the defense of the Caucasus, returned to its base in Sevastopol.

Here the sailors of the Black Sea Fleet began intense exercises, because in the Black Sea region again smelled of war with Russia's eternal enemy Turkey, hovering over the Crimea. But behind Turkey was England, which had a modern steam fleet and France, whose interests coincided in what would not allow Russia's control in the Black Sea region. The Black Sea Fleet could hardly cope with such an enemy, having only sailing ships at its disposal.

Anticipating the danger, Admiral Nakhimov appeals to the Minister of the Navy Prince Menshikov with a proposal to strike a preemptive strike against the Turks, the ultimate goal of which should be control over the Bosphorus Strait. And control over the Bosphorus will give the opportunity to control the entire Black Sea and prevent the powerful European fleet from reaching the shores of Russia.

Menshikov, having listened to Nakhimov, had to refuse him: after all, the danger that England and France will go to war on the south of Russia, so far there was no. But Menshikov was wrong, and soon Turkey declared war on Russia.
