The film takes place in 1941. The Germans are on the outskirts of Moscow, and deep behind enemy lines, partisan detachments are operating, not only causing irreparable material damage to the enemy, but also diverting more and more forces that the Germans were building up for the final attack on the capital.
The core of the partisan detachments are Komsomol volunteers, among whom is the future Hero of the Soviet Union - Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya. From an early age, Zoya admired the exploits of people who selflessly served their homeland and their people, so when the enemy came to her land, she, without any hesitation, volunteered for the front.
In one of the villages, Zoya was captured by the fascists for attempting to set fire to a house with German soldiers. After cruel torture and humiliation, the girl accepts a martyr's death, without giving up any of her comrades to the enemy...
