Plot of the film Scarlet Sails (1961 film):

Returning from a long voyage, the sailor Longren learned that his wife Mary had died. Poverty and a serious illness had greatly shortened her life. But despite the heavy loss, Longren saw a ray of light in his gloomy fate, because he had a daughter from Mary – little Assol.

However, now he had to think about how he and his daughter would live, because he could no longer go sailing. So Longren began making toy ships, and Assol sold them to the neighboring boys. But one day, little Assol met a kind wizard in the forest, who predicted a happy fate for her.

One day, when she is quite grown up, she will see a yacht with scarlet sails in the sea, from which a young prince will come down and propose to her. Asool immediately told her father about this meeting, and he shared the news with an idle tramp.

So Assol and her poor father became objects of ridicule for the townspeople, and many considered the girl to be sick. Only Assol did not give up, and every day she looked at the sea in the hope of seeing scarlet sails there.

At this very time, young Arthur Gray leaves his family castle. He preferred adventures and a career as a sailor to a comfortable and boring life. Starting as a cabin boy, Arthur soon becomes a captain himself.

One day, he meets a charming stranger in the forest. Seeing that the girl was sleeping, Gray did not disturb her, but decided to ask about her at the local tavern. That's how he learned about this girl, her dream and scarlet sails...
