The plot of the movie Lawless (movie 1989):
The film takes place in the 80s of the last century in a penal labor colony. Yuri Kalganov (Kalgan), a convict from the 10th detachment, received a refusal from the prosecutor to review his case. That day Kalgan decided to go on strike and refused to go to work.
The new convict Viktor Moshkin, nicknamed Philatelist, also supported Kalgan. Moshkin was an occasional "passenger" in the colony.
This intelligent and educated young man merely collected stamps and sold them to other collectors. For this Victor was charged with speculation and sent to a colony for a year to sew fufaiks.

A philatelist tells convicts about slaves-Mamlukswho rebel against their enslavers. Inspired by these stories, the prisoners themselves are ready to revolt.
They demand from the management of the penitentiary institutions to lower the production norms. After all, they have to fulfill the plan for the blatniks, who at the same time drink tea and play cards. The philatelist calls on the prisoners to revolution, to overthrow the power of the blatniks or to force them to work.
After that, Moshkin is summoned to a conversation with the head of the operative unit. He advises him to forget about the revolution, because he has only a few months left in the colony.
But the stubborn bespectacled man did not listen to the master of the prison. And then, on the order of the Prince (who is in charge of the zone), the blatniks decide to "put down" the stubborn revolutionary.
Unable to endure the abuse and shame, Victor commits suicide. This prank of the bailiffs became the last straw of patience for ordinary convicts.
And they, under the leadership of Kalgan, begin to smash a small group of blatniks. Having learned about it, the Prince raises a revolt in the colony. Thousands of convicts besiege the rebellious against thieves' lawlessness 10-division...

Помню эти фильмы в конце 80-х годов сильно поразили. Как выяснилось, что в советских ИТУ были такие порядки, что наверное американские гангстеры позавидовали бы! Судя по всему это была «красная» зона общего или в крайнем случае усиленного режима. Чем суровее был режим, тем меньше беспредел.
