Narrative:

The action of the movie Dnieper frontier takes place in 1941, in the first months of the war. As a result of a surprise attack, the Red Army suffers heavy losses and is forced to retreat, surrendering one settlement after another to the enemy.

At the same time, the hero of Khalkhin-Gol, Kommdiv Alexei Sergeevich Zubov, was being investigated by the investigators from the NKVD They knocked out the last of his teeth, demanding that he sign a protocol of confession of his ties with the Trotskyists. But someone at the "top" suddenly remembered about the heroic commander and did not let people with clean hands, cold heads and hot hearts to kill such a strategist. And soon Zubov leaves the walls of the NKVD and receives command of a rifle division in Belarus.

Zubov's division receives the order to equip the defense line behind the Dnieper, which was to stop the Germans, in case they force the Dnieper. In addition, the Dnieper frontier was intended for the defense of Mogilev. Despite the counterattacks conducted by the Red Army command, the front was rapidly rolling back to the East, and the divisions and corps of the Red Army fell into an operational encirclement.

Without much difficulty the Germans manage to force the Dnieper and get to the operational space. Zubov's division burrowed into the ground and held the front and repulsed several enemy attacks. But soon the Germans managed to break through the defenses of the neighboring divisions, and Zubov's division was threatened with encirclement.

Zubov makes a decision to save people: to withdraw the division from the encirclement, and thus surrender Mogilev.
