The film takes place in the mid-1930s, on the Eastern borders of the USSR, in Central Asia. After a long war, the Soviet East was finally freed from the enemies of the revolution - the Basmachi, who had terrorized the Central Asian republics for a long time. But individual bandits managed to avoid the deserved punishment of the working people and lay low.

Only after making sure that the situation had more or less stabilized, these enemies of the revolution decided to engage in criminal activity: attacking peaceful caravans delivering goods to distant mountain villages.

A gang of former Basmachi Abdullah raids one of these caravans and takes hostage an old hunter, Sho-Murad, and his granddaughter Peri. The bandits need Sho-Murad as a guide who can safely lead them through the border cordons, and to make the old man more accommodating, they threaten to kill his beloved granddaughter.

The border dog "Dzhulbars", who was recently Sho-Murad's hunting dog, rushes to help the captives. A few days ago, the old man decided to give "Dzhulbars" to the head of the border outpost Andrey Tkachenko, who once protected Peri from the advances of the bandit Abdullah.

Now, having learned that Peri and her grandfather had been captured by bandits, Tkachenko gave the order to "Dzhulbars" to search for the captives, knowing that the faithful dog would find them even at the ends of the earth...
