Plot:
The action of the film "Horses in the Ocean" takes place in the late 80s of the last century. The main character of the film, the director of the theater for young spectators Mikhail Nikolaevich Kostrov, ends up in prison.
Already on a prison bed in pretrial detention center, Kostrov asks himself the same question. For what? After all, he is not a murderer, not a hooligan, not a rapist and not a traitor to the motherland. He has never stolen, and his job is such that there is nothing to steal.
Realizing that he ended up in prison due to some ridiculous misunderstanding, Kostrov files a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court, hoping that they will sort everything out and justice will prevail.
In the meantime, he had to await his fate in prison, where for one incorrectly spoken word he could not live until the morning.
Understanding all this, the prison management did not place Kostrov in a cell with hardened criminals, but assigned him to juvenile prisoners as a mentor.
Here Kostrov has to observe teenagers whom he, far from criminality, had never met in his life. Some of them sincerely repented and wanted to tie up with their criminal past once and for all, others, on the contrary. Having become embittered towards everyone and everything, they absorbed the romance of criminality and connected their future lives with prison.
But whatever they were, Kostrov sincerely believed that they were all victims of the system. He felt that these teenagers, at least many of them, like himself, had ended up here by mistake. Even the most difficult teenagers should have been given a chance, but they were sent to prison, which only breaks and cripples people's lives irrevocably.
Kostrov reads poems to the teenagers, and one of them, "Horses in the Ocean," touches the prisoners deeply. The director understands that this poem is about these unfortunate kids...
