Narrative:

The action of the film "Our Armored Train" takes place in 1966. The main character of the film, Nikolai Dmitrievich Kuznetsov, went to the front at the age of seventeen, went through the entire war and reached Berlin. Despite the fact that Kuznetsov ended the war with an officer's rank, he worked as a simple worker at a factory. In general, he was a simple and honest Soviet man, who was respected at work and proud in the family.

But one day, when Kuznetsov went out of town with his family for the May holidays, a chance meeting occurred that changed the life of the former front-line soldier forever. A certain Yevgeny Rudich, a former political prisoner who was vacationing next door to Kuznetsov's family, recognized him as the commander of the camp guard platoon who gave the order to shoot at unarmed people in March 1953.

Nikolai Kuznetsov never told anyone about this episode of his service, because after the debunking of Stalin's personality cult, it was not customary to remember this. But Kuznetsov himself was a simple soldier and acted according to the regulations, but he saw that his son Alyoshka, having heard this about him, strictly condemned his father, despite all his military merits and awards.

The situation escalates after the management orders Kuznetsov to speak to the workers of the plant on the eve of Victory Day. But instead of his military exploits in the war, Kuznetsov, to clear his conscience, tells the workers about the suppression of the uprising in the camp.

After this, all of Kuznetsov’s colleagues turn away from him, and the plant’s party organizer, having called him in for a heart-to-heart talk, advises him to forget about this episode in his biography, and the sooner the better.

But Kuznetsov does not understand why he should be ashamed of his biography, since he was following the party's orders? In order to understand the situation, he decides to meet with his former colleagues, including his former boss. Kuznetsov expected them to confirm his position, that they did everything right and should not be ashamed of anything.

But it turned out that his former colleagues, who had shown examples of courage at the front, had now become dejected and preferred to remain cowardly silent. This is what they advise Kuznetsov to do: forget everything, live quietly, without interfering in anything, and most importantly, support the new course of the party leadership…
