Действие фильма «Одинокая женщина желает познакомиться» происходит в советское время, во второй половине 80-х годов. Главная героиня фильма Клавдия Почукаева, сорокатрехлетняя работница ателье мод.

In material terms, by Soviet standards, Klavdiya was quite well off, but despite this, she had never been married, she did not have and never had children, and the prospect of remaining alone forever terrified her terribly.

On the advice of a friend, Klavdiya decides to find a life partner in a rather original way: she writes an ad “A lonely woman wants to meet…” and posts it around the city.

The first person to respond to Klavdia's ad was a homeless-looking alcoholic, whom Klavdia immediately disliked. This was not the kind of "happiness" the woman had expected, and she could not hide her irritation. However, this strange homeless man and alcoholic turned out to be not as bad and worthless as Klavdia had imagined him to be. He did not fit the image of street drunks who are ready to do anything for a drink.

Soon Klavdiya learned that Valentin Spiridonov, that was the man's name, was previously a famous circus actor, but due to an injury he had to leave the stage. And when his wife left him, Valentin could not stand it and started drinking. Such a dramatic story of Valentin could not leave Klavdiya indifferent, and she decides to help him a little.

But her colleagues at work and the head of the studio did not appreciate this noble act of Klavdiya. On the contrary, they were ready to blame her for her friendship with a homeless alcoholic, as they considered all alcoholics to be lost people who could not be changed.

After such an instruction, Klavdia returns home and drives Valentin away, but soon regrets her actions very much, because Valentin was as lonely as she was, and he believed that with her he could change his life...
