Narrative:

The film takes place in the autumn of 1941 in a Russian village occupied by the Germans. From the first days of the occupation, the Germans forced the local population to hand over surplus food for the needs of the German army, and for sabotaging this order of the occupation authorities, the peasants faced severe punishment, including execution.

And since there could be no surplus food in principle during that hungry time, the Germans, and especially the police, were brutal, forcing the peasants to hand over almost everything, condemning the children to death by starvation. The locals do not want to put up with such a fate and try to resist them in every possible way.
