Narrative:

Action of the film PyramMMMida takes place in Russia in 1994. Socialism is no longer in the country, and capitalism is just emerging. But Russian citizens have already tasted its negative sides: unemployment, long delays in salary payments, inflation, high prices and other attributes of the transition period.

At this time, the country is undergoing privatization of the national economy built during the years of Soviet power. The country's most profitable enterprises are put up for auction, but foreign investors are denied access to the auction, and domestic investors have not yet had such money.

Therefore, the sale of the people's "goods" was carried out by businessmen close to the "family", who bought everything for next to nothing through the created dummy banks. Naturally, the money in these banks came from the country's budget, which was formed by robbing its own people.

But one day the "family" and its cashiers had a competitor. This was a certain Sergei Mamontov, a brilliant mathematician who created the MMM credit and financial pyramid in a short period of time. Offering fantastically high interest rates on deposits, Mamontov won the love of the people. Not only ordinary citizens carrying their last funeral savings, but also high-ranking officials, directors of enterprises and even leaders of criminal structures became MMM depositors.

But money and fame are not Mamontov's main goals. The ambitious mathematician wants to buy up all the country's profitable enterprises with this money, so that they would not be sold for a pittance to various adventurers. That's why the adventurers did not like Mamontov's plan. At first, they try to come to an agreement with the people's businessman, and then, pulling the right people in the government, they put pressure on Mamontov, subjecting him to MMM financial audits.

But by that time Mamontov had formed a large electorate in the form of 20 million plus MMM depositors. This circumstance gives Mamontov the opportunity to blackmail the government by holding a referendum of no confidence in the government. The government tries to rein in Mamontov, he is summoned to a government meeting and accused of fraud and creating a financial pyramid.

But Mamontov stands his ground and offers the government a deal. The deal was about giving MMM state guarantees so that the company could enter the Western market and attract hundreds of billions of dollars to Russia. Mamontov tried to prove to the powers that be that his project could make Russia one of the richest countries in the world, even without trading natural resources.

But the officials refuse to share their power with MMM. Then Mamontov starts a revolution. On his command, all the points of issue of shares are closed, their prices are rapidly falling. This causes discontent among the people, and they take to the streets. The people's anger spills out against the government, which decided to "strangle" MMM. But the war against the state machine turned out to be beyond the power of even such a genius as Mamontov...
