Narrative:

Action of the film Oligarch takes place in the 90s in Russia. The public was shaken by a media report about the murder of the disgraced Russian oligarch, CEO of the Info-Car holding company, Platon Makovsky. A hired killer planted a high-power explosive device in Makovsky's car, so that the bodies of the victims were burned from the explosion and it was impossible to identify them.

But Makovsky survived. A few minutes before the explosion, he got into the car of a journalist to whom he had recently given an interview. Already in the apartment of this very journalist, Makovsky saw on television that he had been "killed." He tells only Larry, his assistant and partner, that he is alive. Larry advises Makovsky not to show up in public for a few days to investigate what happened.

Probably, a traitor had appeared among their closest circle. Meanwhile, the Prosecutor General's Office took up the official investigation of such a high-profile murder. Investigator Shmakov was invited from the provinces especially for this purpose. Shmakov was instructed to check all of Makovsky's closest partners, since one of them could lay claim to the deceased's place.

Shmakov found out that Makovsky was a former junior research fellow at a research institute, and at the dawn of the cooperative movement he and his colleagues organized a cooperative. Young scientists were no longer needed by their country, which had taken a course toward perestroika, so they wrote dissertations for money for rich officials, and part-time "boiled" jeans.

Everything changed when a Georgian named Larry, the head of the service station in Tbilisi, came to their cooperative and needed a dissertation. The cooperative, whose brain center was Makovsky, now began producing brooms. Brooms in millions of quantities were lying in warehouses; it was impossible to sell them because the state, in the conditions of hyperinflation, established barter relations between cooperatives.

Then Larry offers to exchange them for cars. Ten years later, Info-Car becomes the country's largest importer of cars, and its leader Makovsky becomes one of the richest people in Russia. Shmakov also found out that Makovsky's path had crossed with a certain Koretsky in the past. Makovsky once stole Koretsky's wife.

Now Koretsky occupied an important post in the Kremlin. Using administrative resources, Koretsky tries to "tame" Makovsky. But the oligarch Makovsky leaves Russia. Far from his homeland, Makovsky comes up with another brilliant idea: if the Kremlin cannot be defeated, it must be led.

Makovsky refuses to cooperate with Lomov any further, and the latter promises to deal with him. Shmakov tries to interrogate Lomov, but the next day he is fired from the prosecutor's office. Meanwhile, Larry has identified a traitor in the Info-Kar business and asks Makovsky to "resurrect"...
