Plot:

Action of the film Two comrades served takes place in 1920, during the Russian Civil War. The White Guard retreated to Crimea, and here, under the leadership of Baron Wrangel, created a powerful defensive line on the trench.

Andrei Nekrasov, a former student dropout and photographer, despite his priestly origins, joins the Red Army at the call of his heart. One day, Nekrasov was summoned to the regiment headquarters, where he received a new assignment. The command learned that Nekrasov was a former photographer, so he was assigned to conduct aerial filming of the White Guard fortified area.

To help Nekrasov they gave him the demoted company commander Ivan Karyakin, who at first was distrustful of Andrei’s priestly origins, which were socially alien to the proletariat.

But during the shooting, the airplane they were filming on crashed and both Red Army soldiers fell into the hands of the Makhnovists. By that time, the relations between the Makhnovists and the Bolsheviks had cooled considerably, and the Red Army soldiers were facing execution.

Knowing this, Nekrasov and Karyakin make their escape, seizing a tachanka from the Makhnovists and not forgetting about their movie camera. But having reached their own people, the two Red Army comrades almost fell under the harsh revolutionary hand of their own comrades, who mistook them for enemies. Fortunately, their regiment's chief of staff was passing by and recognized Nekrasov.

Nekrasov's first film was unsuccessful, because he was a photographer, not a projectionist. However, Andrei had a phenomenal memory, and he restored everything he could not capture with a camera on paper. The enemy positions depicted by Nekrasov coincided with the intelligence report, so Andrei received not only gratitude from the command, but also a personal Mauser.

Having received a full picture of the Whites' defense, the Reds understand that they cannot take it head-on. The division command decides to force Lake Sivash and enter the Whites' rear, simultaneously storming the Turkish rampart from the front.

Nekrasov and Karyakin take an active part in the offensive. Ivan was returned to command the company, and Andrei, never parting with his camera, filmed for history the most heroic moments of the decisive offensive in the civil war.

After the battle, Nekrasov and Karyakin dream of what a new and interesting life awaits them ahead, but an enemy bullet cuts these dreams short. "Here the bullet flew, and my comrade fell..." the words from the song that Andrei Nekrasov often sang, and for which Ivan always scolded him, turned out to be prophetic only for Nekrasov himself...
