Plot:

The action of the film "Treasures of the Republic" takes place in Moscow in the early spring of 1918. Torn apart by enemies on the fronts of the Civil War, the young Soviet Republic was on the verge of destruction.

In addition to this, in the rear, the counter-revolutionary forces were engaged in outright sabotage, which caused a real famine to break out in large cities.

Taking advantage of the general need, various kinds of speculators exchanged bread for gold, jewelry and art objects, and then exported all these national treasures abroad.

All-Russian Extraordinary Commission (VChK), which supervised customs, could not fully track the smuggling of cultural property because there were not enough experienced personnel for this work, and the old customs were not guarding the republic, but its enemies.

But one day, the young Cheka commissioner Bykov showed vigilance and delayed the sending abroad of several paintings. In appearance, they were obvious modern daubs, but the canvases were quite old and this turned out to be very suspicious.
