Movie plot:
The film is set in an uncertain future. An international space expedition is sent into orbit to study the distant planet Solaris. On the 21st day of the expedition, Dr. Vishnyakov and physicist Erton set off from the orbital station to study the planet's ocean, and when they did not return after sixteen hours, the station sounded the alarm.
Several rescue vehicles were sent out to search for the scientists, and after a lengthy search they managed to find the Breeze, the hovercraft on which Vishnyakov and Erton had taken off. With its engines running, the vehicle hovered over the ocean waves, and in its cabin the rescuers found only the body of Vishnyakov, unconscious.
Soon all the rescue vehicles returned to the station, except for the cargo helicopter on which Henri Berton flew out. He returned only an hour after dark, and when he got out of the helicopter, Henri was in a state of severe nervous shock. Two days later he came to his senses, but he no longer left the spacecraft and tried not to go near the window from which the ocean was visible.

Returning to Earth, Burton announced that he was ready to make an important statement that would decide the fate of Solaristics, the science studying the planet Solaris. This was very opportune, because by this time Solaristics had reached a dead end, and there were heated debates on Earth: whether to continue spending huge resources on exploring the planet or to stop research.
The hypothesis that existed in the scientific world that the Solaris ocean was a kind of brain, and even an independently thinking substance, was not confirmed. Doctor Vishnyakov could shed light on this matter, but he was still in the hospital.
And now Henri is ready to present some solid evidence to the international commission in favor of this hypothesis. Henri told everything he saw in the ocean, which so struck his psyche, and even made a video recording of what he saw. But when demonstrating the video recording, the respected commission saw only continuous fog, so most of the commission members considered Burton's visions to be ordinary hallucinations.
In order to finally decide the fate of Solaristics, psychologist Dr. Chris Kelvin is sent into the orbit of Solaris...
