Действие фильма «Сотрудник ЧК» происходит во время гражданской войны в России. После госпиталя красноармеец Алексей Михалев направляется на работу в губернское CHK. The head of the provincial Cheka, Berzin, also held this opinion, and therefore, despite Alexei’s age and the short period of his work in the agencies, he began to place great hopes on the young employee.

Soon, a real job was found for Alexei. The city's defense chief reported to the Cheka that the White Guards were almost unerringly striking coastal artillery positions, which could mean that an enemy agent had appeared in the headquarters. Soon, the Cheka officers identified this agent; it turned out to be the coastal artillery commander Kramov himself.

But they fail to detain Kramov, he escapes, and the Cheka, having begun to study his identity, establish that Kramov is none other than the White Guard officer Markov, whom the Cheka had been looking for for a long time.

Now Markov was one of the leaders of the White Guard underground and planned to take power in the city into his own hands. Alexey Mikhalev received the task, through Markov's contact Fedoseyeva, to gain Markov's trust and establish the location of the conspirators...
