Plot:

The film takes place in the late 1970s. Fifteen-year-old Nadya Privalova from the small town of Primorsk is engaged in swimming under the guidance of her coach Viktor Varentsov. And although Varentsov was not a professional coach, he himself was a former swimmer, he saw talent in the girl and decided to recommend her to his former coach Elena Ryzhova.

Ryzhova invites Nadya to participate in the Krasnodar Region Championship, which the young athlete easily wins. Now the USSR national team is interested in Privalova, and at the very first tryout Nadya sets a new USSR record, overtaking the current national champion Zoya Kruglova in the individual standings.

After this, Nadya becomes the main candidate for the national team, pushing aside other famous masters, and now the path to world fame is open to her. But at her first international competitions, Nadya comes in only fourth, and at the European Championships, she refuses to go out on the track at all: with the stands full, she cannot overcome the barrier of fear.

Nadya's coaches understand that they were in a great hurry with her, because at big competitions, where everything is decided in a moment, psychological readiness is no less important than athletic form, so they still had a lot of work ahead of them...
