The plot of the movie Shot (movie 1966):

A young ensign arrived in a remote military garrison. After drinking well one day, he insulted Silvio, the landlord, in the presence of other officers. A duel was expected, but Silvio did not respond to the insult.

He was rumored to have served as a hussar and participated in the 1812 campaign, but his reasons for leaving the service remained unknown. Silvio avoided talking about duels, which reinforced the officers' opinion of his cowardice, especially after the incident with the ensign.

But one day Silvio received a long-awaited letter and announced his intention to leave, inviting the officers to a farewell dinner. However, most of them refused, not wanting to mingle with a man who did not defend his honor. Only officer Ivan Belkin visited Silvio and learned that he had avoided duels for fear of being killed because he needed one important shot.
