Narrative:

The action of the movie Wait for me. unfolds in the early months of the war. Major Yermolov's crew was making a reconnaissance flight behind enemy lines to take aerial photographs of a secret enemy airfield. Caught under fire from German anti-aircraft guns the plane was shot down and made an emergency landing.

The three pilots, one of whom was wounded, and the war correspondent Mikhail Vainshtein find themselves deep behind enemy lines, and the Germans, having noticed the place where the plane crashed, rush in pursuit. Yermolov realizes that they will not be able to escape from the chase, together with the wounded man, and, taking refuge in an abandoned hut, decides to give the Germans a fight, which will surely be the last in their lives. But before the Germans catch up with them, Yermolov orders Weinstein to take the intelligence tapes of their letters to their relatives and friends and try to get behind the front line.

As much as Weinstein did not want to leave his comrades behind, he had to obey his commander's order and set off. But after taking a hundred steps, Mikhail heard gunshots and realized that in all probability all his comrades were dead.

Weinstein manages to reach his own, and the first thing he does is to visit Lisa, the wife of his friend and commander Nikolai Ermolaev. He gives her a letter from Nikolai with a short text: "Wait for me" and tells her everything that happened to them. Mikhail had no doubt that everyone in that hut was killed and is forced to tell Liza that her husband Nikolai Yermolayev is dead.
