Plot:
Action of the film Deja vu takes place in 1925 in the USA during the prohibition era. Chicago gangster of Odessa origin Mick Nitch (Nikita Nechiporuk) "hands over" to the police a supply chain of large quantities of alcohol in loaves of bread used by the mafia family of a certain Don Cimino. Enraged, Cimino orders his henchmen to get the traitor out of the ground, alive or dead.
Soon the boss was informed that Mick Nitch had left the Chicago mafia's sphere of influence and was in Soviet Russia, where it was virtually impossible to reach him. Nevertheless, the gangsters turned to a certain Johnny Pollack, a Pole by origin, a mafia killer, and the best specialist in his field.
There were legends about Johnny, that he could get any person, no matter where he hid, even in the devil's ass. Having received a deposit, Johnny, under the guise of an American professor-entomologist, goes in transit through Odessa, to the island of Sumatra to catch butterflies.

In Odessa, supposedly, there is the grave of his father, who lived here before the revolution, so Johnny decided to stop by to visit him and at the border, he gets a transit visa for two days. An experienced killer, he thought that he had enough time, but he was wrong, because he ended up in a country of a victorious social revolution.
In addition, Johnny became the first passenger on the New York-Odessa flight, and for this occasion an extensive program was prepared for him, and a guide, Komsomol activist Klara Glushko with a group of pioneers, was already waiting for him on the shore. Johnny barely managed to hide from the annoying activists in his room. But as soon as he tried to collect the weapons he had brought, cooperative member Pyotr Krivonoshchenko was put in his room.
Johnny tries to assert his rights before the hotel administration, but it is useless. They explained to him that in a country where there is people's power, it is not nice to live alone in a three-bed suite. Johnny urgently sends a telegram to Chicogo so that they increase his fee, since he has to work in difficult conditions. He tries to pay for the telegram in dollars, but this currency, convertible in all countries, turned out to be useless.

Johnny learns that he can exchange dollars at a bakery owned by a certain NEPman named Nechiporuk. Pollack is delighted, because Nechiporuk is exactly what he needs, so he buys some fish at the market, wraps it in a parcel and sends it to Nechiporuk. In the language of the Italian mafia, a dead fish is something like a black mark for pirates – a warning of imminent death. Nechiporuk, who settled in Odessa and set up a supply of Ukrainian moonshine to the US using the same loaves of bread, is seriously alarmed. He orders his henchman, “Mishka Yaponchik,” to keep an eye on this American.
But Johnny gets into trouble, jumping out of a moving train, he hits his head and loses his memory. As they say, a wedge is driven out with a wedge, and soon in a street fight Johnny gets hit on the head again and remembers why he came to Odessa.
Finally, he gets on Nechiporuk's trail, but brings the criminal investigation department, which had been following him since his arrival in Odessa, on his tail. Nechiporuk is arrested, and the authorities send Johnny Pollack back to the United States. But Johnny understands that death awaits him in his homeland, so he jumps off the ship every time he is sent. After several such attempts, Johnny is sent to a mental hospital.
Two years have passed. Don Cimino, still waiting for Johnny, sends a killer to Odessa to kill him. But the gangster who arrives in Odessa is in for another déjà vu: he turns out to be the thousandth passenger who arrived from New York…
