The plot of the movie Days of the Turbins (movie 1976):
The movie takes place in the winter of 1918 in Kiev. It was the second year of the revolution, the civil war was in full swing. German troops and their protégé, Hetman Skoropadsky, a former adjutant of the Tsar, were ruling in Ukraine.
And on the outskirts of Kiev, threatening both the Germans and the hetman, Petliura's detachments were prowling. Everyone wanted to rule Ukraine, but only the Bolsheviks knew that it had to be protected. By a decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR, a Ukrainian front was created.
In this troubled time in the house of Elena Talberg, gathered friends and coworkers of her brother Colonel Alexei Turbin, commander of the artillery division of the volunteer army of General Belorukov.
The officers discussed their plight, drank vodka, raised toasts to faith, tsar and fatherland, and were determined to fight back the enemy who would dare to march on Kiev. According to Alexei Turbin, their main enemy was not Petlyur's formations, but the Bolsheviks. The White Guard and the Bolsheviks are the main driving forces in this war.
And in the morning the officers were in their units, in readiness to repel Petliura's attack, although they realized that the forces were not equal, because for one cadet in their units there were twenty untrained students.
But despite this, the morale of the soldiers was unusually high. And while the soldiers were preparing for the decisive battle, Hetman Skoropadsky called for a meeting of the generals from the German headquarters and the commander of the volunteer army, General Belorukov.

But the arriving German generals informed the hetman the unpleasant news that he was denied further military assistance from Germany. The Germans offered the hetman and his staff to flee to Germany. Hetman Skoropadsky, General Belorukov and his entire staff fled, Hetman's adjutant Shevlinsky informs Alexei Turbin.
The colonel immediately goes to the division entrusted to him and announces to the men that there will be no fighting. He orders the soldiers and officers to drop their rifles, take off their epaulets and go home.
This order caused a wave of indignation and indignation, and some officers tried to arrest Turbin. And then the colonel informed everyone that they had been despicably abandoned and that, in fact, there was no one to command them. Turbin summarized that the White movement was over, the people had turned against them, the people had gone after the Bolsheviks.
After that the colonel repeated the order for the second time and this time it was carried out. Having released all the officers, Alexei, together with his younger brother Nikolai, stayed behind to wait for the advanced outpost, which had been sent earlier, but the detachment was already being pursued by the Petlyurovtsy. The Turbin brothers try to shoot back, but the forces were not equal: Alexei Turbin dies, and Nikolai miraculously manages to escape from the clutches of bandits.
On reaching home, Nikolai tells his sister and Alexei's friends gathered at her house about his brother's death. The officers realize that the same fate awaits them, so they take shelter at Elena's house and sit in the house, disguised in civilian clothes. But Petliura's rule was short-lived, and soon Kiev saluted the arrival of the Red Army....
