The Sinner (2014) movie plot:

The film takes place in modern Russia. The main character of the film, twenty-five-year-old Vlad, as they now call him, was a representative of the "golden" youth. His father is a successful businessman, the owner of a large plant in the city, worked all his life so that his son would never want for anything.

Having received an education abroad, Vlad opened his own business in London, becoming a co-owner of a famous publishing house, and many might have thought that life was a success. Vlad would probably have thought so, if not for one circumstance: twenty years ago he lost his mother. She was killed, right before his eyes.

All this time, Vlad believed that his father was directly responsible for his mother's death, since her murder was a result of his active business activities. Vlad was sure that his father was only interested in money and women in life, and that his family was simply in his way. Returning to Russia, Vlad is determined to once and for all figure out what really happened twenty years ago...
