In the midst of the Civil War, in a small village, a story unfolds about a group of young heroes involved in the maelstrom of historical events. Makar, a village boy, together with his friends, becomes a participant in the underground struggle against the "Whites".
Their ranks include the scout Timofey, who has invaluable experience in gathering information. Egorka, a loyal comrade, always ready to come to the rescue. Mikhail, an experienced underground operative who provides a link to other resistance cells. Irakli, the owner of the local inn, providing shelter and valuable information. His daughter, who shows great courage and determination.
They are confronted by the "Whites", represented by the staff-captain of counterintelligence Cherny, a cold-blooded and ruthless officer. The manager of the bar manor, striving to preserve the old order. Father Krestovozdvizhensky, a priest who uses his position to propagandize and support the White Guard regime. An English military advisor who epitomizes the interference of foreign powers in Russian affairs.
Makar's faithful companion is the Caucasian sheepdog Druzhok, who shows incredible loyalty and intelligence in the most dangerous situations. Inspired by adventure novels, in particular stories about Indians, the boys apply their knowledge and skills in a real fight.
