The action of the series "Prison Break" takes place in 1902. At the end of the 19th century, revolutionary sentiments engulf the Russian Empire. Revolutionaries initiate strikes, rallies, and walkouts aimed not only at protecting the working class, but also at changing the entire social system.

This could not please the ruling class in any way, so the political investigation department received special unlimited powers against the rebels and soon the prisons of large Russian cities were filled with active fighters against the regime.

In 1902, new political prisoners were admitted to the Lukyanivska prison in Kyiv, who were suspected of publishing and distributing the revolutionary newspaper Iskra.
