Действие фильма «Ссора в Лукашах» происходит в конце 50-х годов прошлого века, в российской глубинке.  На побывку в родную деревню Лукаши приезжает лейтенант Константин Ласточкин, который служил техником в танковой части.

At that time, a tractor broke down in Lukashi, and neither the tractor driver nor the local mechanic Viktor Tuz could fix the problem. The chairman of the collective farm was given a headache by this careless mechanic, whose soul was drawn to culture, but who did not want to be drawn to machinery.

At the mechanic courses, where the collective farm sent Tuz to study voluntarily-compulsorily, Victor played in amateur performances, because of which he was even released from classes. Therefore, the collective farm money for Tuz's training was wasted: he turned out to be a lousy mechanic, and Victor suffered, feeling that he was not in his place.

Fortunately, his friend Kostya Lastochkin was passing by at that time, saw how the tractor driver and mechanic were torturing the tractor, and decided to help them. The chairman of the collective farm appreciated Lastochkin's professionalism and offered him a position as a mechanic in Lukashi, promising to build a repair shop on the collective farm.

Two months later, Lastochkin is demobilized from the Army and comes to Lukashi with the firm intention of building a repair shop in Lukashi, which the chairman promised him. However, the relationship between the mechanic and the chairman soon became strained due to the fact that Lastochkin, with his careful attitude to the equipment, was disrupting the chairman's harvest plans.

Because of the slightest breakdown of the tractor or combine, Lastochkin had to run to the district workshop, and this took a lot of time, so Kostya began to remind the chairman that it would be a good idea to build a repair shop on his collective farm.

But the collective farm did not have the resources to build a workshop, and besides, a new cowshed had recently been laid. The only way out of the situation was to reduce the workdays, and therefore the material well-being of the collective farmers.

At the meeting, where the chairman brought up the question of the workshop, some of the collective farmers supported him, others Lastochkin. The quarrel in Lukashi was brewing quickly. The local party organizer volunteered to measure the collective farmers, and he came up with a simple and ingenious solution to the problem, which this time satisfied all parties to the conflict…
