Narrative:

The film "Beria. Loss" takes place in 1953. After Stalin's death in 1953, a triumvirate of power was formed in the leadership of the USSR. According to the leader's will, the party was to give way to the executive branch in the country's leadership, that is, the Council of Ministers, whose chairman was Georgy Malenkov.

His first deputy was Lavrentiy Beria, who was also the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. And Nikita Khrushchev received the post of Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, which now lost its main management role and was supposed to be engaged only in the selection of personnel.

Despite the fact that Lavrenty Beria held the post of Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers, the position of Minister of Internal Affairs gave him a great advantage over Khrushchev and Malenkov, because this department was one of the most powerful security agencies in the USSR.

Having held the post of head of the internal affairs and state security agencies since the late 1930s, Beria placed people loyal to himself in these structures and for many years ensured support for Stalin's power. But now Stalin was gone, and Khrushchev was quite afraid that Beria would use his position to seize sole power in the country.

But Beria was busy with other matters. First, he ordered a review of all cases of mass repressions of the 1930s-50s and an amnesty for all those who had been convicted illegally. Second, Beria proposed reforming the GULAG system, removing it from the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and transferring it to the Ministry of Justice.

Finally, Beria proposed to withdraw Soviet troops from East Germany and to unite it with West Germany into one state, which should become a neutral state.

This last proposal of Beria became the formal reason for accusing him of espionage against the USSR and arresting him, followed by trial and execution. To achieve this, Khrushchev managed to win over not only other members of the presidium, but also the disgraced Marshal Zhukov, who had great authority in the armed forces of the USSR…
