The plot of the movie Hockey Players (movie 1964):
The action of the movie is in the mid-60s. Another year brought Soviet hockey players and hockey fans a lot of joy, they became world and European champions, Olympic champions and now before the end of the season they were solving internal problems. Who will become the next champion of the country: the capital's "Rocket" or "Metalist" from Belogorsk?
It will have to be decided in a face-to-face match between these teams, the last match of the current season. Before the match "Raketa" hockey players were in a better position, they had one point more, and to win the championship, they needed a draw, while Metalist needed only a win.
But before the decisive match hockey fans suddenly learned that their favorite and star of Soviet hockey captain of "Rocket" Anatoly Duganov will not take the field in the starting lineup, and together with him and his legendary trio. No one but the hockey players and "Rocket" coach Lashkov knew the reason, and no one understood why Lashkov did not release the famous hockey players for the decisive game.
Meanwhile, shortly before the game, Lashkov and Duganov had a conflict that had been brewing for a long time. The conflict culminated in an article by Duganov, in which he accused the coach of chasing the result at any cost, resulting in an unhealthy atmosphere in the team.

Lashkov was an advocate of offensive hockey and relied on young and fast hockey players, while experienced "veterans" were forced to warm the bench, believing that their time was irrevocably gone. Therefore, in the decisive game, because of Duganov's critical article, he decided not to put him and his trio on the ice.
Coach "Raketa" Lashkov is determined not just to win, but to defeat, as he thought the arrogant upstarts from Belogorsk and instructs his hockey players only to attack, squeezing "Metalist" near their gates.
But this tactic quickly exhausted the forces, even young hockey players, while Metalist, playing on the counterattack, could not only turn the tide of the game, but after the second half to take a 5:2 lead. Seeing that his tactics did not work, in the middle of the third half Lashkov released Duganovskoy three on the ice...
