Summary of the movie The Captain's Daughter (1978):
Immediately after his birth, hereditary nobleman Pyotr Grinev was enrolled in the court Semyonovsky regiment in St. Petersburg. However, when the time came to serve, his father decided otherwise.
Rightly believing that the capital's idle life can adversely affect the character of the young officer, his father sends Peter to a distant garrison, lost in the Orenburg steppes.
Thus, Grinev's first place of service is the frontier fortress of Belogorsk, under the command of Captain Mironov. Hard service and boring everyday existence, devoid of any entertainment and pleasures. This was the first impression of Grinev and Belogorsk fortress.
However, soon his opinion changed. The reason for this was the captain's daughter Masha Mironova, with whom Grinev fell in love at first sight.
However, as it turned out, Masha was in love with his coworker Shvabrin, with whom Grinev managed to befriend. This Shvabrin, unlike Grinev, was exiled to the Belogorsk fortress for killing in duels, which were forbidden at that time.
Having seen Grinev's infatuation with Masha, Shvabrin tries to defame her in his eyes. However, Grinev soon learns that Shvabrin himself offered Masha his hand in marriage, but was refused.
The officers then quarrel, resulting in a duel. In their first fight, Shvabrin severely wounds Grinev, but he survives.
Grinev realizes that this is not the end of his story with Shvabrin. And he will wait for a convenient moment to complete the case. However, for a while they had to pause their confrontation.
The reason for this was a large-scale peasant uprising led by the fugitive Cossack Emelyan Pugachev....
