1940. The war unleashed by Hitler is already in its second year in Europe. America has not yet entered the war, providing military and technical assistance to Great Britain. In addition, many American soldiers are sent there as volunteers.
The situation changed at the end of 1941. On December 7, Japanese aircraft attacked an American military base Pearl Harbor in the Hawaiian Islands. The purpose of this attack was to neutralize the American fleet in the Pacific Ocean. This allowed Japan to occupy large areas in Southeast Asia.
After this treacherous attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States officially entered the war.
Against this backdrop, the fate of two friends from Tennessee is shown. Rafe McCauley and Daniel Walker, who have been interested in aviation since childhood, become military pilots at Pearl Harbor. In 1940, McCauley volunteers to fight for Britain.
During a combat mission, he was shot down and miraculously survived, but the base was informed of his death. Only a few months later, McCauley returned to his homeland. However, for the girl he loved, he was dead, and now she was with his best friend Walker.
It is unknown how the further relations of childhood friends would have developed if not for the attack on Pearl Harbor. After America entered the war, the leadership made a decision to strike Japan. Volunteers were needed to carry out this operation, and McAulley and Walker stood in the front ranks.
The operation was mortally dangerous, because heavy bombers could only take off from aircraft carriers. And the landing was planned on the territory of China free from Japanese occupation.
