Plot of the film War in the Western Front :
The film takes place in the early summer of 1941. World War II has been raging for two years. Hitler has marched victoriously across Europe, and by the summer of 1941 his troops had come very close to the borders of the USSR.
Every commander of the Red Army understood that the war would begin in the near future. But Stalin and the entire top military-political leadership of the country remained calm and called for not spreading panic.
Remembering the repressions of 1937-1939 against the army's high command, none of the current leadership wanted to express their opinion when discussing the situation in a close circle of like-minded people.
During this turbulent time, Major General Chumakov was appointed commander of a mechanized corps in the western direction, which would soon become the main theater of military operations.
From the first days of the war, Chumakov skillfully commands the corps. He leads it out of encirclement and takes responsibility for blowing up a strategic bridge.
However, such an initiative of the general could cost him his life. After all, the authorities now had to find and punish those guilty of the terrible defeat at the beginning of the war...
