Действие сериала «Застава Жилина» разворачивается в 1941 году в Смоленске, незадолго до войны. Главный герой сериала восемнадцатилетний Павел Жилин мечтает стать военным летчиком, ни из-за проблем со зрением молодому человеку путь в армию был закрыт. Жилин учился в институте и работал на заводе, а по вечерам учился танцевать под руководством Лизы — своей соседки по коммунальной квартире, в которую был очень влюблен.
But one day their dancing ended. This happened due to the arrival of Alexander Ananyev, an old friend of Liza's and a graduate of the flight school. Old feelings flared up with renewed vigor in the souls of Liza and Alexander, and a few days later they sealed their love with the bonds of marriage, and Zhilin, out of despair and hopelessness, attacks his rival with his fists.
For a fight with a Red Army officer, Zhilin faces severe punishment, but unexpectedly Ananyev himself stands up for him, and the military commissar manages to settle the issue with the police, so instead of prison, Zhilin goes to serve in the army.
Having entered service in the NKVD border troops, Zhilin arrives at one of the outposts of the Brest border detachment, where he soon encounters the war. From the first minutes of the war, Zhilin's outpost finds itself under heavy fire and fights with superior enemy forces.
After the death of the outpost chief and the sergeant major, command of the unit passed to Zhilin, who shortly before his death was appointed squad commander by the outpost chief.
Soon Zhilin's fighters ran out of ammunition and were forced to retreat from their previously occupied positions, but the front had already retreated tens of kilometers, so they found themselves deep in the enemy rear.
While trying to escape from the encirclement, all the fighters of Zhilin's outpost were killed, and he himself was captured. Then there was an escape, and again a camp, but this time a Soviet one, and then again the front. But wherever Zhilin was, he always thought about Liza, and about the fact that one fine day after the war they would definitely meet…
