Narrative:

The action of the movie "Gold" takes place in 1941, in the first months of the war. In the border zone, a Soviet echelon is bombed, in the mail wagon of which collectors were carrying gold from the Riga office of "Jewelertorg".

Both collectors are killed, and the railroaders who found the gold decide to take it to the nearest branch of the State Bank in one of the border towns.

But by this time almost all the bank staff had managed to evacuate, except for the elderly senior cashier Koretsky and young typist Musya Volkova, so they had to accept more than 17 kilograms of gold according to the inventory and in the manner prescribed by law.

Now we had to wait for the collection car, which Koretsky had called by telephone from the center, but the front rapidly receded, and the Germans entered the city. The first thing they did was to visit the branch of the State Bank, hoping to seize valuables and money there, but Koretsky and Musa managed to convince the officer who came to search the bank that the bank and with it all the material valuables had been evacuated.

But soon, during a second search, in piles of scattered papers, the Germans found a copy of the very inventory by which Koretsky had taken the gold from the railroaders, and which in the haste of escape he and Musya had left in the bank.

Realizing that the old man and the girl cleverly tricked them and stole 17 kilograms of gold right from under their noses, the Germans throw a large force to catch them. And Musa and Koretsky have to go through forests and swamps to get out of this mousetrap, from which it seemed almost impossible to get out, because the front line, to which they so needed to reach, was rapidly receding further to the East....
